Period poverty is a global problem, spanning across borders. It is often described as a lack of access to sanitary products due to financial or cultural burdens. In India, nearly 71% of adolescent girls do not know what menstruation is, until it occurs for them. Period poverty in India has detrimental effects on women and girls.

 

There are several organizations tackling period poverty in India, and we have interviewed Priyanka Meena from The Period Protection Project, a youth run organisation with a mission to end menstrual inequity through service, education and advocacy.

 

Interview with Nadjah Osman, Chair of the Black Policy Institute Young Advisory Group

 

I have met Nadjah in a warm afternoon of January and we had a really interesting conversation on leadership, policy making, youth, women empowerment and much more.

I was stricken by her experience and mind, at such young age she has impressed me with her strong resilience, passion and motivation to "efficiently wanting to make a change".

Perhaps your idea might be different from Laura's one, but it has been really interesting to have this conversation on motherhood, business and career.

Laura Carey is the director of The Independent Mum's Handbook, she launched her first business when she was 18, raised two kids on her own, went back to university to study Psychology and launched a new business in her 30s.
